In 2022, the European Railway Award will be two awards: a more technical “Rail Trailblazer” Award, selected by our jury and revealed on the day of the Award ceremony; and a political “Rail Champion” Award, which CER & UNIFE jointly bestow as an honorary recognition.

For our Rail Champion Award 2022, we have decided to pay tribute to Manfred Weber, Leader of the European People’s Party in the European Parliament, for his inspiring dedication to the promotion of rail among youth. Thanks to his support of the DiscoverEU scheme, thousands of young Europeans have been inspired to travel through and engage with their neighbouring EU countries in a sustainable way. An achievement with particular resonance as we wrap up the European Year of Rail and begin the European Year of Youth.
